  • Verifica i dati dell'inserzionista

Tips and activities

Licata is a beautiful city on the southern coast of Sicily, just a few kilometres from Agrigento, with many shops, bars, restaurants, pubs, shopping malls and 2 the beautiful Marina and is a very interesting from a historical point of view and cultural heritage, because of its archaeological site, to its Museum, its churches and villas in "liberty style". The beaches are known for their soft sand and clear sea.
Different specialties make very good local food: fresh fish and vegetables, various types of cheese and desserts according to Sicilian traditions. From Licata is possible to reach the most famous towns of the island: Palermo, Piazza Armerina, Syracuse, and you can also visit the Etna volcano. The ideal location for visiting Licata begins from Piazza Carmine, which overlooks one of the many monasteries of the old town. Within a portal the chiaramontan ' 200 and the permanent exhibition on the anglo American landing. Along corso Roma, meet the Dominican monastery with the tombstone of the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition, and Art Nouveau mansions built in the early ' 900. When you are in piazza Progress gaze is captured by the sumptuous Palazzo di Città designed and built by architect Ernesto Basile Palermo. It is the first Italian public building where, at dawn of July 1943, eleven were hoisted English and American flags. A history, the administration of AMGOT of Licata, that inspired the war reporter John Ersey to write the book "a Bell for Adano", winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1945, which tells the story of a Sicilian origin USA official who contravenes the orders for supply of water and food, a fishing village and will return their historic church bell stolen by the Germans (in fictional Adanoin reality Licata). Along corso Vittorio Emanuele meet Baroque palaces and liberty, in a mixture of styles that has few equals in Sicily. To visit the piccolo teatro liberty, dedicated to Philip King Cricket licatese surveyor (he design and to build), and Chapel of the black Christ, located inside the Church of Santa Maria La Nova. The story goes that in 1553 a fleet of 104 Turkish and French galleys, commanded by Admiral Dragut attacked Licata of Mehedia. The city burned for 8 days. The Cathedral suffered the greatest damage and tradition has it that the Turks tried to burn the crucifix. The wooden Christ not burned but became black and this was deemed a miracle. The licatesi built for Thanksgiving the chapel that still attracts the faithful. One of the most picturesque districts of Licata is the village of Marina, a maze of narrow streets inhabited by fishermen and therefore full of hard life. On the hill above Licata (legend has it that from the top of the same was knocked down within a barrel full of nails, the Roman Consul Attilio Regolo) you can visit the Castel Sant'Angelo, a Spanish Fort still in excellent condition, and the remains of the Greek colony of Phinthia, the first urban settlement in the territory of Licata.
