Pisa is one of the most important Italian cities of art and every year it is a destination for mainly cultural tourism. In fact, there are many places of interest not to be missed.
Piazza del Duomo is one of the most important areas of the city from a touristic point of view: also called Piazza dei Miracoli, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The famous Tower of Pisa was built here, one of the monument symbols of the city and of Italy itself.
However the Tower of Pisa is not the only relevant monument in this square. In fact, a visit to the Cathedral of Pisa is highly recommended, built in the Middle Ages and characteristic for having been built with white and colored marble. In its interior the beautiful apse mosaic of Christ Enthroned between the Virgin and St. John stands out, created by Cimabue in the early 1300s.
